

The workshop will open
various perspectives on construction of knowledge in classrooms and on the role
of teachers and tutors in this endeavor. The workshop will be of an
interdisciplinary character with scientists in developmental and cultural psychology,
in mathematics and science education, in computer science, and in argumentation
theory. The workshop will focus on school types of dialogues and on the design
of activities in successive sessions. Also special stress will be put on
mathematics and science education.
The workshop will consist of 10 sessions. Sessions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9 will each last half
a day (9:00-12:30 or 14:30-18:00) and have a standard 3.5 hour format as
follows:

Two
introductory lectures and a reaction of 25 minutes each.
·
Coffee
break (30 minutes).
·
Panel
discussion (60 minutes), initiated by 5 minute statements of panel members who
have not lectured / reacted in the same session.
·
Open
discussion (45 minutes) leading into lunch or dinner break.
Session 4 will consist
of two public lectures (45 minutes each, followed by a questions and answers period).
Session 7 will be a
hands-on technology session.
Session 8 will include
hands-on experience with technological environments.
Session 10 will be a
summary discussion and closing session.
